If you’re not yet familiar with the ins and outs of what a demo is, it’s a car in the dealer’s stock that, while it’s been registered, has yet to be sold. This is because they are used by the dealership as cars for people to do test drives in. Further to this, they can also be used as loan cars for people bringing in their own vehicles for a service, as well as by staff (often management) in a general manner such as to and from work, to the shops and the like.
There are a couple of specifications for a demo car to be sold as such you should be aware of (if they don’t meet both of these, it’s simply a used car):
It cannot be over two years old
There cannot be more than 5,000 kilometres on the clock
Another consideration when buying a demo car is the warranty. You’re most likely to have the warranty included upon purchase, however because it kicks off as soon as the car is registered, if it’s right on the limit of 2 years old and its manufacturer warranty is 5 years, you’ll only have 3 years of warranty left.
